Money Maker by Michelle Strader

Money Maker by Fawn and Lark

This week’s fabulous Raven was drawn by Michelle, who resides in the teeny tiny village of Cape Vincent, NY. In addition to being an excellent photographer and illustrator, she is a full time professional cake decorator. She describes her inspirations:

“I have a peculiar obsession with dead animals, (though I enjoy them alive just as well) while all things organic, botanical, mammalian, avian, medical, linear, and skeletal simply fascinate me. I enjoy drawing from my own photographs and gain inspiration from my vast collection of nature and medical books.”

Prints of her work can be purchased in her shop Fawn and Lark including my other favorite, Thoughtful Crow.

My name is Michelle Strader. I went to art school at Pratt@MWPI and earned my BFA at the College of Saint Rose. I am now a professional cake decorator and part time artist. I live in teeny tiny village called Cape Vincent, NY.

Borrowed from my Etsy profile:
“I have a peculiar obsession with dead animals, (though I enjoy them alive just as well) while all things organic, botanical, mammalian, avian, medical, linear, and skeletal simply fascinate me. I enjoy drawing from my own photographs and gain inspiration from my vast collection of nature and medical books.”

Crow Gift wrap by Cipollaraven-gift-wrap-cipollaI have been madly wrapping Christmas presents, so it just seems fitting that this week’s selection is in the form of delightful, hand-stamped gift wrap by Toronto’s own Cipolla. My other favorites are the anitomical heart and sea creature. Be sure to check out her Zombie and Raven pillows too, wonderful!

Tere Ryder’s Bird and Moon Studio is based in Seattle, Washington

Bird With Gears

Her fantastic birds are embellished with pieces found at auction and in flea markets, junk and antique shops. Some of the gears and clock parts have been extracted from antique pocket watches that dating back to the 1800’s.

“…thinking about birds most of the time now feels like such a good thing….something about flight, freedom, soaring, etc…….One can’t help smile, and that is what I try to imbue in my birds….a different personality for each one that will make one smile”.

Tere has only given her creations descriptions, the name is up to the adopter- she expressed that “…each one kind of speaks a different thing to each person that sees it”.

You can visit her lively blog here.

Seaside Raven, handcrafted by Kari of Finestra

Her lovely pendants are made using photographs encased in glass. Blue Moon is also enchanting, as are  Clouds, Orion Nebula and Quasar which look like magical amulets but are actually pictures taken with a space telescope. 20 percent of every sale is generously donated to one of the nine charities supported by Kari.
